Two things to say, this evening: (1) I didn’t count (no need to!), but there were obviously more comments about Vista Bill Raley’s birthday, yesterday, than there were about the story, and I don’t doubt that Team Tracy appreciated that just as much as he did; (2) I think that it’s hilarious AND clever that the Mumbles character here is erudite! So, I’m glad VBR enjoyed his day (as he well deserved to do!), and I’m still surprised by, and am enjoying this current story!

Good morning, DT fans!An eloquent Mumbles equivalent who surely is not called “Mumbles”! Here’s an exception to the bad is good rule, for surely a corrupt cop is bad!

This entire story is mostly just an excuse to cameo the Rogues Gallery, but as I like the Rogues Gallery that’s fine by me.

So, usually bad = good and good = bad.

    But maybe not always.

    Mostly, though.

And whose side is “Big Ears Finney” on, really?

    I’m so confused-!!

But what shall we call a crooked cop who was Mumbles, but in the Midnite Mirror-verse is articulate and well-spoken?The Chalice is very outspoken and blunt, but Chief Boche needs to come to terms with the fact of his 50%-corrupt force….

Heavens to Murgatroid…Mumbles speaking eloquently…this whole story is like the Tracy/Blackjack inversion…only on a larger scale (if that was his name)

The most “amusing” thing in “FUNKY FUNKY” World, is *Flattop*now wearing a Dick Tracy ‘yellow coat’ to shore up his appearance of being a detective !

Hmmm, I wonder if “The Chalice” will be putting together his own team to counter Boss Tracy’s organization? After all, he does have his own kids and brothers. Flat Top Jr. in the traditional Junior role. Angel Top filling in for Liz?

They’ve already introduced Bud Jenkins as the Junior-type (circa 1940’s).

I’m off for my cardiologist appointment in a few minutes. My daughter is coming to take me. Rainy day. All I expect to happen is an ekg and a suggestion for a nuclear thalium stress test (last time was in 2010 with no indication of any problems). I’ll need a long nap when I return! What a wonderful birthday I had. Thanks again guys!

    SIGN ON THE DOOR ? (panel 1) . . .

In the recent past I seem to recall at HQ, It always read - “Chief Patton” (?)

Now in Reverso World what’s wrong with *-Chief Prune ?

Might fit in with Marilyn Singers - “Mirror Mirror” ?

Mumbles is the first bad guy we’ve seen in this story who’s still bad even in this story. Given that the last we’ve seen Mumbles, he was tangling with Punjab who can send people “to the Magi”, this might indicate that this is something Mumbles is experiencing on the way “to the Magi”.

Wasn’t this also the problem with the Chicago police when Capone was in power? And it took an outside force to take him down, just as the Chalice is coming in here.Tracy’s early strips had him in a similar situation with Big Boy Capice.

Not all people have to be changed. Just some of them.

I think they all need to change sides, but not necessarily anything else. I wonder if Mumbles is actually a rogue that might turn police informer in the “Dick Tracy real world,” but that’s probably reading way too much into today’s strip.

This is taking forever just introducing all the characters. I don’t know when we’ll get to the crux of this story? It looks like it’s going through the whole November unless this is someone’s dream and they wake up in the middle of it. I wonder if this will end with a shootout between Tracy and the Chalice? Who would win? Would that end the crime wave?
