I think what he is saying is, the export of classics to the States will take off. It has always been a thorn in the sides of some Canadians that Americans come up here and buy away some of our rare machinery. The lure is for restoration, not making new classics.

Gweedo asked,Is Lupita sharing the crypt with you and Rikki now ?-——————————————————————-.No. Lupita is a different story. Rikki is in my own personal ‘twilight zone’. Sort of an "outer limits’ thing.G’morning, Gweedo.

I’m always amazed how the Cubans have kept those vintage U.S. made cars running all these years.

Parts may be a bigger market in Cuba to finish projects here in the states….

Actually I’ve been to Cuba and those cars are hell on the atmosphere.

No modern emissions standards = almost impossible to breathe everyday by lunchtime in Havana.

I’m all for normalizing relations between the USA and Cuba…the moment the Castros are no longer in power, and Cuba is being run by someone who isn’t going to fill prison cells with political dissidents.

Hey, look – there’s another classic New Yorker on the road! (Hm, isn’t that Johnny Ola behind the wheel?)

Turn your back on DJ?I’d never turn my back on anyone who gets their hair cut by a dog groomer.

I get what you mean, but even in Cuba there are only so many of those and how many are actually in restorable condition ?

Well, the farther north you go, the more likely road salt damage is to occur, so I think that’s probably a reason that Cuba has a higher percentage of vintage car bodies in reasonable condition.

I’m starting to think Dishonest John is going to be more than an informant in this story. Could he be the main bad guy? Specs and his girlfriend seem more set up to be patsies.

There is a documentary you can find on YouTube, called “Stuck in Time”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO6iIi9xvTY Part of description says, “Since the U.S. embargo was enacted in the early ’60s, no American products have been allowed either into the country, or out. And experts agree, sitting on that small island is a treasure trove of pre-1960 vehicles that many collectors would love to own.”

As an antique car enthusiast, I would love to visit Havana some day!And yes, it’s really all about the parts.

BTW, the car in the strip is a nicely depicted 1960 model Chrysler.

When I first heard about possibly opening relations with Cuba, the first thing I thought of was the classic car market. Most Cubans could become instant millionaires.

I like the way the fin stretches all the way to the door. This is especially distinctive on the two-door model. Never turn your back on DJ. As they say, that dog don’t play. Things could get dicey for Specs and Spicy.

Regarding the vintage car market, how many of those Cuban cars would contain authentic parts? I would imagine a buyer would find a lot of replica and improvised components in those vehicles. After all, it’s been more than 50 years since replacement parts have been available in that country.

Lots of those classic American cars running around Cuba are far too rough for American collectors to be interested in them. Many have had their original drivetrains replaced by engines, transmissions and rears sourced from newer, non-USA-produced vehicles.

Many of them don’t have cars …

According to the documentary I linked to, the average Cuban earns $10 a month. You can just imagine how many rare car parts that would buy!

Specs and Spicy aren’t interested in YOUR opinion !

No, I’m sure they aren’t, and if they want to get a gang through DJ, they will have to go along with whatever he says.

Wunbrow kinda states the obvious when he says “never turn your back” on Dishonest John! Who would even be that dumb?! Bring me my big barkers! The Desert Eagle .50 cals.! Let us hope it doesn’t come to that for Tracy, Ivanov, or Wunbrow. Specs and Spicy, on the other hand, are on the other hand….

If DJ thinks he can get someone close to him to work the specs, then Specs doesn’t have a prayer. There was speculation a while back that maybe the “specs” only work on Specs himself. Don’t know if that’s true or not. They did cure his migraines, so maybe they are “tuned” to him.

An explosive market that peters out after a couple years or so ?

Yeah, the market won’t last long. The supply of cars in really excellent condition is pretty limited, I’m sure.

And there again they made a mistake in going to a “higher power” for help with their scheme.

So, essentially, Spicy’s dream of independence isn’t really happening at this point. As long as they are in Cuba, they are in DJ’s territory. It’s essentially out of the frying pan and into a different frying pan. Maybe they should follow DJ’s contingency plan of moving to a different island or somewhere in Central America.

Ok, after moving from New England to California, I was amazed at all the classic cars….which was possible because of the lack of snow, salt, etc here. So why would Canada be a treasure trove of classics for here, rather than the reverse?
