In this day and age where we’re surrounded by computers? Person of Interest shows many ways that a malevolent AI can commit murder, although it does usually depend on help from people. Like transferring money to a hitman, and sending a text message with the name of the target.
I thought at first that Abner would be killed, and the story would then focus on Rikki’s revenge. But what if it’s the other way around? Rikki is killed, then Abner turns up alive and seeks revenge for that.
Today’s internet enabled cars connect the entertainment system to the same network used by the engine control system to shave a few dollars. This means that a remote attacker can hack into the entertainment system and then kill the engine, or power steering, or otherwise interfere with the ability to drive. The circumstances of Breitbart’s death suggest this type of hit.
Even worse, the internet enabled (in flight wifi) airplanes connect the entertainment system to the same network as the flight control system to shave a few pounds off the weight. A proof of concept attack successfully logged the flight control data from such an airliner in flight – demonstrating the ability to also send flight control commands (the hacker did not want to put anyone at risk). Unlike current automobiles, this actually lets the attacker “steer” the plane. The next 911 may not even require the terrorists to be on board.
Glitch is the tech-wiz, although his creation, Matty Squared, may surpass his creator’s capabilities. Great drawings of Bribery. Rikki in the background is icing on the cake.
Matty Squared will be a hard villain to vanquish. As an independent virus with free will, every place he infects becomes a separate instance of the virus. Deleting the one in Bribery’s computer will not delete one placed in a different computer. The more computers that are affected, the more individual instances of Matty Squared. Soon, there could be an entire cyber network of Matty Squared’s. Tracy is going to have to find something stronger than BleachBit to foil this.
Hmm…interesting. How can an AI terminate a person? The only way I could see, is possibly shorting out something and causing a fire or electrocution. Perhaps some how gas her via CO poisoning — starting her car when it’s locked in an attached garage?
So, Bingo Bribery is going to use Doc Glitch’s better-looking electronic alter ego as his new top hitman. Sounds like a job for Dethany Dendrobia for sure. But who would be doing whom a favor becomes a bit confusing. Tracy and the Good Guys should want crazed Rikki’s assault on Pat Patton stopped. But they do not want a victorious Bribery. And, while Glitch seems for now to be just a brainy flunky, he could emerge as a serious independent threat, too. Matty Squared, an evil version of Max Headroom, is something of a wild card as a free-willed virus. Maybe a directed-EMP weapon will be needed, Diet Smith!

Matty might just fall prey to Miss Mortis’ not inconsiderable charms.

Aaaand … Mr. Bribery now has a new assassin in his employ.
Matty seems a bit dense, but he’s supposed to have artificial intelligence. Maybe he can learn Rikki’s habits and find a way to do the deed.

Hmmmm…..just how is a computer being with no corporeal existence supposed to carry out a murder? This should be interesting.

I wonder if our “Matty” was the inspiration for Mike’s character, Matty Squared. There’s a lot they have in common.
