It reminds me of the Hotel California. You can check out any time, but in this case he’s leaving.
I tried to find any significance to the names Lanier and Lawerence (which seems like a misspelling of Lawrence), but I couldn’t find anything definite.
Polite me is stating nicely his intention to leave the hospital. As Harry said above “don’t get in his way” and wish him a nice walk OR skull eye might emerge and take over – then it won’t be “Hello, Goodby” he’s humming, but “Good Night Irene”…
It looks like two different inking styles today. Panel one is a near carbon-copy of yesterday’s first action panel, with the sketchier line work. Panels two and three are definitely Shelley Pleger’s style.
The backup generator is the least of their worries. The good doctors are dressed in suits and ties, but they might as well be wearing red shirts. The mystery man can check out, leaving others to grieve. An intriguing (and grisly?) start to this tale.
The three personalities each have their own speech style. Check the Sunday strip and you will see three different types of speech balloons: one with conventional type, one in all italics, and one in all bold type.
The personality who speaks in italics is doing the talking today.

I guess the night shift security all went home to beat the storm. How else can you explain inmates wandering the halls.
And so it begins!
