U-Stor-It must be one of the major employers in town. Step right up… it’s your lucky day, seniors. You, too, could graduate knowing that you’ve already signed up to earn at least minimum wage… and have Crustwood Civil Defense Captain Burl Penny as your boss.
Why so much need for storage?
Well, for one thing, Crustwood citizens do their part to help ensure high national levels of consumer spending and personal debt…And then they need someplace to put all that cr …stuff …. so they can forget they have it and buy it all again.
And for another…. all the young people move out of their parents’ homes as soon as they can, and need somewhere to store their stuff, while they scour the country looking for someplace … any place… else to live.
I don’t think Ma ever hears those lame remarks…..but she lets Burl think she did so he can feel better about himself now and then…………that’s Mighty Funny, and his faithful companion, Smirker!!
They ALL belong in a home…one with lots and lots of padding on the walls and lots of razor wire, vicious dogs and men with loaded gun surrounding it! LOL!

Wow the employment opportunities in Crustwood are amazing. What teenager would want to leave town.
I would want to work at the Acme Button Factory myself. And the Enron Employment Agency…I always wondered what happened to their managers.
I thought Mas was already in a home. Haven’t we seen her there?

And yeah…. most of the time Ma is portrayed as living in what these days they call an “independent living” senior residence…
dunno whether you’d call that place a “home” cos she seems to have her own apartment.
Then again, there’s no continuity, so sometimes it’s more like a care home….and other times she seems to have her own home
But even if she lives in a home already, Burl would say that…. cos he’s Burl.

world of difference between being in the home as opposed to being in a home

Is this a record – Burl saying something that could be construed as sensible – if slightly snide?

Ma doesn’t miss a trick – she just waits for her chance at a zinger.
