Maybe it’s part of the joke, but it isn’t “Wherefore art thou, Romeo?” It’s “Wherefore art thou Romeo?” (The comma makes all the difference.) “Wherefore” doesn’t mean “where.” The line means, “Why are you Romeo?” (Why are you not someone from a different family that isn’t feuding with mine?)
