It looks like 2 and 3 are backwards.
It took too long, but what I get is: panel 1=anticipation, 2=excitement, 3=disappointment that toast has ceased to be entertaining, (unseen=Doug reenacts the excitement or rejects the toast), 4=Sophie benefitting from & commenting on all that
