It’s the only way to ensure Dad gets any exercise.

A friend’s golden would stop bringing it back and just keep it to herself. I always wondered if Maggie thought, “Every time I bring it, he lets it get away again. Clearly, he’s not up to the responsibility of hanging onto the tennis ball.”

Our Goldie/Lab, Jean-Luc, would fetch a few times, then turn it into “Look what I have that you can’t have!”. But we learned if we stayed in one place & kind of lunged at him as he ran by, he was just as happy & got the Zoomies out. Win-win, folks!

My game of throw away keeps getting ruined by my dogs fetching the stuff back.

Our St Bernard never did play fetch

One of our cats likes to play, I think his record was over a dozen returns in one session

When she was younger, our Jingle Belle Katz would madly bat a ball around the room. Eventually it would roll somewhere near us and she would stand and yell at us. Presumably, “Throw it again!” Not quite fetching, but…

My Yorkie loves fetching, as long as there’s something in it for her. Word of warning, Yorkies are born capitalists… They only work if they get paid! That little lab just needs proper compensation and she’ll fetch all day.

Sadly, when it comes to playing fetch, my dog just doesn’t get it.
