Had a yellow lab who ate a full lb. of butter once. Another time she polished off a 14" pizza plus another left-over piece. Her partner in crime (an English setter) did in a full pecan pie and neither one had the courtesy ot even burp, let alone get sick! LOL (I still miss them both.)
My golden tried to eat a whole (large!) chicken breast but that one didn’t stay down. Otherwise she was a living vacuum. Talk about eyes too big for your stomach. Now that she’s gone we have to actually pick up things we drop…People talk to me about dogs that only eat what they need, who leave a bag of treats open on the floor and the dog will only take one or two a day. I find this a bit disconcerting for every dog I’ve met (mostly retriever-types) will somehow manage to eat the food before it actually exists.
At one sitting (?) Bubba ate an entire package of Oreos (including the pkg), a box of microwave popcorn (incl the box), a box of rice and a light bulb. The kitchen looked like it had been ransacked. (Sigh…I still miss him.)
Family story: During WWII my gramma went into town with her monthly food chits and her youngest daughter, then about 2 1-2yo. Vouchers included one for 1lb of butter, the families entire allotment for the month. Daughter and groceries were pulled home in a wagon. Once home my gramma realized that her daughter had eaten nearly the entire pound of butter. To this day my aunt will eat butter by the spoonful.

when we brought our rescue dog home – one night we found her working her way through with a loaf of bread – plastic wrap and all!
