That’s why I keep the cats’ meal times flexible — it’s more natural that way! (The colder the morning, the later I go out to the barn to give them breakfast…)
We used to feed our 2 shelties from different bowls side-by-side. The older dog was a picky eater. He ate very slowly. The younger dog would wolf his food down in seconds. Often when the younger one finished, he would run to the front door and bark. Protecting the house was the older dog’s job. He would be tricked into leaving his partially finished food which the other dog would run back and finish.
The smaller critters can be quite comfortable out of the wind, inside a barn with lots of hay to burrow under. If the barn has a bunch of cows & horses radiating body heat, so much the better. But, I’m a wuss, they’d be inside, on my bed. :-)
