I read books because they do not require batteries; I also like to read a book before it is developed into a movie. I view the director’s version as his/her artistic rendition of the book just as a symphony director would interpret a composer’s music piece. I also play mind games with myself; if the book was good I try visualize how it be presented as a movie and who would play what part.
I have a friend who goes on and on about the difference between the movie and the book. I used to have time to read, now with a child it’’s easier to Netflix movies.
Sometimes the book has no bearing on the movie. For example, the book “Blade Runner” was about bootlegged surgeries perform in an era of government controlled healthcare (something that is becoming a nightmarish reality) while the movie was about hunting illegal androids. The only thing they had in common was the title.

The only thing consistently worse than the movie based on a book is the movie sequel.

Shades of Fahrenheit 451, or perhaps I should say, prequel to it.
