Many years ago, I had a German Shepherd that loved going to the rabies clinic. She would jump up on the table for her share of affection. I don’t think she ever felt the needle.
Kid Sister’s Pit Bull, Linda, was downright placid at the Vet’s. Linda’s only complaint was an exasperated look at getting a booster shot after having tumors removed from her tummy. And she gave me the “look”, not the Vet! RIP, Linda…
I don’t know about little bitty pups, but I don’t think medium-to-large dogs feel a whole lot, if it’s just a subcutaneous shot. I have one dog that I have to give allergy shots to every two weeks. I make her sit, then I just gather up some of that loose skin at the back of the neck and poke the needle through there. I just gave my other dog an antibiotic shot the same way last week. They really don’t react at all to the poke through the skin. Now, an intra-muscular shot is a different story….yikes!

It’s all that fur. Is the vet sure he got the needle all the way in?
