I worked in a building where bats roosted in the upper half, which was given over to ductwork and catwalks. The bats would occasionally find their way down into the inhabited area of the building where the offices were. While some of my coworkers were freaked out by the incursions, I welcomed them—because our building was about a hundred yards away from a salt marsh lagoon, which bred zillions of big, voracious mosquitoes! I would just shoo the confused bats back outside with the admonition “Go do your job—eat mosquitoes.”
I was once in a meeting in a place where I knew no one. I looked for the calmest looking person in the group, asked him if we could have a private word. He asked me what was up, and I asked if we could get the waste basket next to me outside, quietly. He was confused. I said there was a bat in it, and I didn’t want to freak anyone out. I took it outside while he covered with some excuse.
