David Halberstam: You know, Dick, when I think of your New York glory days back on the old "Tribune," it just sends chills up my spine. Rick: Those were the days, all right. Halberstam: Were they ever! I don't think I'll ever forget your columns, how you used to fill them with anecdotes... they were big, glistening anecdotes, very moving, very bright, anecdotes that piled one upon another to form a sprawling mosaic of our times, that was how brilliant they were. Rick: Of course, I was only stamps editor then. Halberstam: No matter. You owned the town.
