Voice: Okay, the Governor will take one more question. Yes, you. Man: But I don't have a question. Voice: Okay, you. Man: Governor Reagan, if you are elected, will you reconsider your decision not to have any kind of energy policy? Ronald Reagan: No. For 121 years, since that first oil well in Pennsylvania, this country has done without an energy policy. The squandering of our resources enjoys a long and honorable tradition. Man: Hear, hear! Reagan: I think it's time to give the oil companies back their incentives. It's time to admit that obscene profits are a small price to pay for increased productivity! Man: Cathy? I think you should hear this! Woman: I've been listening, honey... Reagan: Strip away government regulations, rules and taxes, and America's oil companies will lead us into a new era of oil self-sufficiency! Man: Hee, hee! That's great! We don't even believe that in the industry! But you gotta love the guy, y'know? Woman: I'm not so sure, dear... Reagan: Governor, what if there are limits to our resources? What if one day we do run out of oil? Reagan: Well, we can always go back to blaming the oil companies. But at least we will have tried! Man: WHAT? Woman: See? Please, honey, you've got to make your move into software before it's too late!
