Roland: Can we win one for the gipper in El Salvador? Well, first we must understand who it is we're getting in bed with. We talked to U.N. envoy Jeane Kirkpatrick about the ruling junta. Ms. Kirkpatrck, how would you describe the government in El Salvador today? Jeane Kirkpatrick: Well, we call it an "M-Rag," for "moderately repressive authoritarian government."" But at least they're fighting terrorism. Roland: But what do you call beatings, kidnappings, and the killing of thousands of innocent civilians? Kirkpatrick: "Soviet-inspired acts of terror." Roland: From the military? Kirkpatrick: Oh, no, those are called "regrettable counter-measures."
