TV: Coming up...an ABC Wide World of News special report! Starring...the man! Meet Juan. Juan is nine years old and lives in the South Bronx in New York City. Like other boys his age, Juan plays stick ball and worships Reggie Jackson, but every momth or so, when his mother's rent is due, Juan does something most other kids do not: he robs banks. It started innocuously enough with hubcaps. But by the time Juan was eight, he had been implicated in over 17 bank jobs in the metropolitan area alone. Good evening. I'm Roland Hedley, and this is the story of one street kid's introduction to big time crime. It is a familiar story, one repeated wherever poverty and hopelessness drive children to acts of desperation...there are literally thousands of Juans today, some robbing banks, others knocking over liquor stores. But because they lead secret lives, the Juan you see here is actually a composite. The real Juan doesn't really exist. In fact, your name is Harold, right, son? Right. But I know lots of guys just like Juan.
