Mike: So what are you going to do this summer, Rufus? Rufus: I dunno. Get in trouble, I guess. Mike: I thought you did that last summer. Rufus: It's the thing I do the best, man. Mike: I hear you're workign a paper route now, Rufus. Rufus: Yeah. Mom made me take it. Mike: How is your mother these days, anyway? Rufus: Not so good, man. She had to quit her job. That's why I gotta work. Mike: Why'd she quit? Rufus: It didn't pay. She couldn't see knockin' herself out 12 hours a day for less money than if she didn't work at all! Mike: What are you talking about, Rufus? Rufus: Reagan's cuts, man. Turns out she actually does better on full welfare than if she keeps her job and accepts partial aid. Mike: What? Are you serious? Rufus: Check it out, man. Mom's famous. Look at these clippings. Mike: Why, these are...editorials! Rufus: Everybody loves an anecdote, man.

yeah, this is what happened to me! i was a mother of 3 little ones and reagan’s agenda required that any mom on welfare, aid to dependent children, had to, when her youngest turned 6 years old (going to full time school), either get a full time job or get educated for a career.. .. ..this was horrendous for me because, like many moms of 6 year olds, all my kids were in that age bracket and NEEDED me!! but i went to college to get a teacher’s certificate so that once i got the job i could be home when the kids were home. .. ..but it didnt work out that way and not well even while i was at college, for the kids… and all that time i thought it was a good thing because it never occurred to me that their father would neglect them!
But the biggest problem was those republicans in washington deciding that a mother of three little kids Should “get a job” and “pull her weight” reagan and his gang.. what monsters.
