TV: Mr. President! Mr. President! Okay, I'll take one more question, but it can't be too hard! Person: Time for one more run-through, sir... Ronald Reagan: Gee, I dunno, fellahs, I'm all rehearsed out, I think I knew my lines. Person: Let's just make sure, sir. It's an important press conference. Okay, how do you explain the worst unemployment figures since the Depression? Ronald: 40 years of extravagant spending and budget busting have ravaged the economy. It's not my fault. Person: Speaking of budget busting, how do you justify your $1 trillion spending plans for the military? Ronald: Two decades of letting the Soviets outspend us have left us eak and vulnerable. It's not my fault. Person: Speaking of the Soviets, how do you explain a blistering and inconsistent policy towards the U.S.S.R. that was only alarmed and angered our allies? Ronald: I inherited a 60-year legacy of cooling the Russians, it's not my fault. Person: Good, now, how would you characterize any suggestion that some of these things might be your fault? Ronald: Um....let's see...don't tell me...it's....uh...unfair criticism! Person: Sheer demagoguery, sir, it' sheer demagoguery! Ronald: Still? I thought that was only until the elections.
