I once commented at work that I was glad we didn’t live in the same country as Jack Bower (the main character of the TV show “24”). I was informed by my co-workers that Jack Bower did live in this country. Hoo, boy.
We all love superhero movies. Hancock, Batman, Superman, The Incredibles, Spiderman, Ironman, And of course those cop stories - Al Pacino chasing Robert De Niro across the airfield, a thoroughly suave Morgan Freeman anticipating every move that the criminal is going to make. And then there is the eternal Sherlock Holmes. Who could never be defeated.
Dude, get real. Jack Bauer is another one in this list. So don’t have to worry about him taking away your civil rights.
Factoid for Alabama_Al; the actor who plays Jack Bauer is actually Limey-Canuck, and the grandson (through mum Shirley Douglas) of Falkirk-born (as in Scotland) NDP founder-leader Thomas Clement Douglas.
Alabama_Al - I “got it”, and I’m from Oklahoma fer cryin’ out loud. Not only that, but I don’t even watch “24”. Wonder where these other dudes are from?
Attyush, Sherlock Holmes WAS defeated at least once that I know of - by Irene Adler, whom I believe he always referred to as “THE woman” (or “THAT woman”?). I think the story was called “A Scandal in Bohemia”.
But to verify this, I would have to get up and go into the other room, and I’m too tired to do that.

That would only be true of Republicans who still watch the moron-box (other than for DVD’s) bell3rose.

Dick Cheney, now, he’s ticking. And he lives in this country. No, wait, this IS his country; the rest of us just live in it.

@Alabama_Al:
Uh, dude? Jack Bower is fictional. That means he doesn’t exist.
So it’s a bit of a stretch to say that he actually “lives” in this country. Any more than, say, Batman does.

I still crack up when I think about the Republicans using a scenario from “24” to justify torture during their Presidential debates.
And the guys who didn’t swear that they WOULD TORTURE CAPTIVES if an attack was imminent were thrashed for being weak on terror!
What a hoot!

What the bleep is ‘24’?

“24” was about 23.9 too long. At least Cheney hasn’t headbutted any fashion designers lately. That we know about.

What’s wrong with headbutting fashion designers? Ever seen some of the bizarre outfits that wind up on runways?
