Alex: Well, I'm off. Sorry about the Sherm crack, Leo. They say the key to a successful marriage is the two or three things you don't say every day! Toggle: Not exactly p-problem for... me. Alex: D'oh! Toggle: Safe... travels.
It seems from the end panel that Alex is commuting. Flying back and forth from wherever she and Leo live and her graduate courses at MIT. This answers all those questions some readers had.
I have a communication problem with my husband, who’s hard of hearing and getting worse. I have a pipsqueaky little voice that lots of people have trouble hearing, and I get impatient when I have to repeat things (yes, yes, I know it’s wrong!). On the other hand, my daughter often gets impatient with me because I can’t retrieve words fast enough and deliver well-formed paragraphs that pop out like Minerva from the head of Zeus. Still, we put up with one another and coexist.

The aphasia hasn’t affected Leo’s wit.

Poor Alex has a gift of shooting from the lip.

Maybe she’ll learn to watch the lip. But then, maybe Leo will bloom a sense of humor, too.

I kind of identify with Alex. I always find this story arc with her and Toggle moving, and beautifully worked by Trudeau.

From the heart, the mouth speaks. If you have a warm heart, you won’t need to guard your lips.

There are times when no matter what you say, it’s the wrong thing. And no matter what is said to you, it doesn’t help.

Yes, because God would hear him, and She would not be amused.

“If a man speaks in the forest, and there’s no woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?”

Ask your wife.

I think it’s sort of a good thing for their marriage that when Alex thinks of Toggle, his speech impediment is not her primary thought.

Give him a hug, Alex!

Alex’ll get there. It may take a while, but she’ll get there.
