Doonesbury by Garry Trudeau for September 30, 2013
Transcript:
Zonker: Incredible! It still fits! Sam: Wow... how'd you get an invite to the royal wedding, Z? Zonker: My birthright, Sam! Well, not my birthright, exactly. It belonged to a destitute Lord who sole me his title. Sam: Can I go? Zonker: I don't know why not. Got anything to wear? Sam: Sure. If I use tennis balls, mom's dresses fit me perfectly! Zonker: Boy, could that go bad. Sam: I'll be careful. When do we leave?

To make it current, just substitute “baptism” for “wedding.”

I liked this arc and don’t mind the rerun. I will be glad when according to slate.com new daily strips will start again in November. Haven’t seen the show Trudeau started yet, anyone else?

Yes, we did have a revolution, but for reasons I can’t fathom, some Americans can’t lose their fascination with the British royalty.
About a generation ago, I heard a noise in my living room early one morning and went to investigate. Rather than the burglar I feared, it was my roommate’s girlfriend, glued to the television with Kleenex in hand, watching Charles and Di get married 6-7 time zones away. (The minister sounded like Alfred Hitchcock.) She was there because my roommate had a large (for its day) color TV, and she only had B&W at home. I muttered something along the lines of “Thought we got rid of those people back in the 1700s,” and went back to bed.
I was surprised that she of all people, a doctoral student in biochemistry, would get caught up in that. Education level apparently has nothing to do with it.

Stick to the Tea Potty; it’s more relevant. I have no love for the royals, but nastiness is not becoming.

I think the royals are kind of interesting, and I got a edumacational level!

Watch it , pal. I happen to be an Anglophile, and I thought the wedding was beautiful!

Okay, let’s stop dumping on the Royals. Its not like they have any influence on our government. (although the way things are right now, that might not be a bad idea…)

You know Peanuts didn’t do reruns until Schulz died.

Just remembered that my son-in-law dissed the summer Olympics on Facebook because England sponsored them. Since I’m of English ancestry, I was proud of that Olympics and defended it. Every man to his own taste, said the old lady as she kissed the cow . . .
