How does Zonker jump like that wearing flippers?

Yeh, but what are the flippers made of?

This is one of my favorite early Doonesbury dailies. Just for Mark and Zonker. X)

I’m with JLG on this one…this is one of the first daily strips that I can remember reading in the newspaper…(read the earlier ones in a collection later)

Quick trip! Did they find America already? Or did they lose all interest once they left the driveway?

They also got arrested for possession during their trip(but released on a technicality).

This one is so sweet & funny. Zonker has always been my favorite character. I could never understand why BD & Boopsie would have him as a nanny, but when he was questioning Mike about the trip like a mother would I saw a reason.

You can still picture Zonker leaping into somebody’s arms even now (but if it were into any of the older character’s arms he’d probably break a few of their bones by accident……..) (Mark is thinking, “My, how you’ve grown!”)

These people are the original “Friends”.

It’s been so long ago, I don’t remember…did Mike and Mark ever find America and, if they did, did they call Zonker as soon as they got there, like he asked?

The “arrested for possession” trip was a different trip. Zonker went along and was arrested because they found not one, not two but THREE marijuana buds, ergo “He must be a dealer!”.

seems like some part of the story was skipped – joanie’s hubby should make an appearance soon and so should daughter JJ -

I remember this strip. I had forgotten how crappily it was drawn back then. I think GBT still drew it himself at the time.

Zonker has always been my favorite!
