How could anyone afford to throw anything from Trader Vic’s into a dumpster?

First time around, I found this hilarious. Now, 30 years later and working at the local food pantry, I’ve met people like Alice and this makes me sad.

As if military pensioners could live on what they get. High grade officers, sure, but the average retired enlisted grunt would be homeless, just like you Elmo….

Update: Crazy is Dubya sending the country into Gulf War II. Crazy is an $18.3 trillion national debt.

Most good food is thrown away because it doesn’t look pretty. It doesn’t go to hungry poor people because the stores and restaurants aren’t equipped to give it away, or they can’t bear to see it not make money for them. When someone tries to distribute “discarded” food, they’re prohibited by food safety ordinances really designed to protect restaurant and grocery profits. Many cities prohibit and harass “Food Not Bombs” efforts despite allowances by the Good Samaritan Food Donation Act.

If you live in a shelter, you know people are not going to cater to your food allergies. So, by that time, you should know if you have an allergy and be careful what you eat. .You have allergies that change, but I doubt you sue a restaurant that gives you something you shouldn’t eat.
