Duke: This is insane! Since when do you care about drugs in the third world? It's part of the economy, for god's sake! Officer: So's American aid. Duke: You're going to regret this! Colonel Sang-Froid is a friend of mine! I demand to see him. Officer: No problem. He's in the next cell. Duke: Huh? Officer: I'm sure you have a lot to catch up on. Sang-Froid: Water... water... Duke: Oh, right. And where the hell are you when I need you?

“Making some drugs illegal was a boon to criminal syndicates and poor countries like Afghanistan.”.Making marijuana legal in so many states resulted in decreased demand for Mexican marijuana. They responded by growing more opium poppies..Making a relatively safe drug legal resulted in its replacement with a drug which often kills..The solution, of course, would be to make all drugs legal and just accept the loss of life from their misuse, especially since the total number of dead would probably (although not definitely) drop..The response to partial legalization, though, suggests those put out of business by decreased profitability will find something else lucrative to do and it will most likely be illegal and dangerous too..Just understand this before acting on the false assumption all bad things will go away..
