    Not bad. She was only off by one year. The quake of ’89 near San Francisco was a biggie, killing 63 souls and causing 6 billion dollar in damage, yet not the big one predicted to eventually hit.

    And the left is telling us the sky is falling now that Trump is in office. It’ll have the same outcome.

    @Say What Now‽

    > And the right doesn’t see the sky falling on their heads. (if you want to make this political)

    Except the situation right now isn’t the sky falling. Some people (“the left”, if we’re using those dumb labels) see things that convince them the sky is about to fall. If you look at it (as close to) objectively (as I can manage), nothing like skyfall has occurred, just a bunch of things that, in the past, have often been precursors to bad things happening. It’s all anticipation. (Cue Carly Simon.)

    The “right,” you may recall, was saying “Obama’s policies are turning the recession into a depression that will never end, and leading us on a path to war with our European allies” during his first few months in office. It doesn’t sound or look that different to me now.

    But so far, all that’s actually happened are a bunch of things that seem (to us) like (obviously) dumb moves. And a lot of complaining and protesting.

    It’s like Arlo & Janis sitting on the deck at sunset (and her phone’s inside charging) and there’s rumble from the west. Janis says “big storm coming in”, and Arlo replies “nah, just a little heat lightning.” They’ll have to wait to see who’s right. And so will we.

    I’m hoping he has enough time left to learn on the job before something really bad actually happens (i.e., that his luck holds out until he doesn’t need it so much). Otherwise we’re in for a really bad ride, and being able to say “I told you so” from the back seat won’t be as much solace as you might think.

    Why does it look so different to you? Probably because you trusted Obama and hate Trump. I didn’t trust or hate either of them.

    Real folks are already suffering due to trump. It isn’t imaginary. Even some trumpsters are getting buyer’s remorse. There was an enormous difference between the calm, intellectual, constitutional scholar of Obama and trump. The days of the Obama administration seems like decades ago. Obama wasn’t perfect but he was many degrees better than the current prez. The red states tend to have many who benefit from social programs which are being cut. Real people need meals on wheels, after school programs, school lunch and breakfast programs, Obamacare, etc. My US senator, pat Roberts, joked recently that folks didn’t need mammograms covered. He later apologized. (Of course.) It was something he meant 100%, regardless of apology. This congress and administration only care about the 1%.

    she should take him into the small back seat (or the passenger seat) and create their own earthquake.

    California is nice, but they do have some issues. Unless you are in the 1%, I don’t know how you could ever own property there that is worth a hill of beans.

    And if California slides into the ocean,

    Like the mystics and statistics say it will.

    I predict this motel will be standing,

    Until I pay my bill . . .

    @Linguist

    I remember I was watching the World Series from San Francisco, on television, when the earthquake occurred !

    I was too. Technically, the game hadn’t started, but the pregame show had just started when it hit. They say that there probably would have been more casualties, but many people had left work early to be home or at the stadium for the game start at 5:35PM. The quake hit at 5:04PM.
