Funny, I was of the same generation as Zonker, but it never would occurred to me to use my Dad’s credit card for any reason. But then again, I always had a job and my own credit card.
Wow, I thought I was the only one who took this precaution. Particularly when my exwife is around. Not saying she is a crook, just saying I am careful to insure cordial feelings through preventative measures.
I worked for Sharper Image from 1992 to 2008. I was a programmer so I was an innocent bystander. :-) I think at the time of the comic TSI had desktop pinball. I remember with shame the Trump Steaks catalogue cover.
In the mid 90’s we gave our musician son a credit card for “emergencies” while he was touring Europe. Never looked at the bill because he was paying it. About a year later we get a letter from the bank saying the card was over the $10,000 limit.

And Sharper Image is still going strong. There is no limit to people’s desire for silly gadgets.

Or one could hide the card when sleeping or in the bathroom since the alternative is to carry cash for everything.
