I don’t think the author quite gets the subtle distinctions about magical thinking. It doesn’t mean you have religious beliefs (although my bringing that up risks a Sunday atheism argument). Hoping Covid-19 will just go away without any efforts to prevent its spread is magical thinking. Hoping that wonderful job will fall in your lap without doing any of the work involved to bring it about is magical thinking. I’m not sure whether adults telling kids that an Easter Bunny brings them candy (rather than admitting that it’s the parents who buy it) fits under the definition.

Because Trump did not begin a national testing program ASAP, he is responsible for the spread of the virus around the USA and the deaths of tens of thousands.

We have 4% of the world’s population and 33% of the covid cases solely due to incompetent Republican mismanagement of something that was obvious to everyone else.

There is still no organized federal testing or tracking system in place,

Trump has totally failed America.
