“The original run ends this [triple cross] arc abruptly at this point (March 23, 2002), following it with…a week on the ethics of music sharing with Mike and Alex.”
Oh, I’m glad to see a new story line; I was getting tired of Duke and that thieving pig. Amazing how much Alex looks like Mike—no paternity test needed here, LOL. It’s also cute how kitchen items (like those two canisters) seem to have lives of their own.
Makes me mad the Youtube channels that are just playing a recording of someones music. That is just theft. and worse is the people who say they love the band – but does not take the time to go to the band’s actual channel to get the same music.
Back when I bought CDs, I would immediately make a copy, then listen to the copy, keeping the original safe. Paid off a couple of times when I misplaced the original. Friend said you can’t do that. I said, watch me.
Making this copy for personal use would very probably be considered fair use. Making a copy for your father instead of for yourself might be stretching it a bit, but probably not. If there is a commercial CD product out there that has his beloved liner notes and art, then I would agree with Mike – buy it and support the artists who made it for you and the rest of the world. If not, then I would tell Mike to back off and appreciate her effort and thoughtfullness.

Just as Rob Brewer kind of predicted on Saturday:

With liner notes and art, I guess it’s a DVD, not a CD, even if and SVCD could do, they’re rare…

I would have gone the “Well, if my allowance was higher I could afford…” route.

They should be called “archival copies,” just in case Universal or one of the other big music outfits has a fire.

The ethics of Napster is an argument I’d prefer to leave well in the rear view mirror.

As I’ve said before, funny how un-funny moral obliviousness is when it’s spread like peanut butter all over you social toast.
