My dog can distinguish between my garage door and the garage door on my wife’s side. Even though she’s inside she can smell the difference between visitors while they are still outside like the UPS guy when he drops off a package and our friend who always brings her treats.
I’m not surprised. My cats recognize the sound of my car and run to the window to watch me walk up to the door. My wife tells me that they don’t do this when other people arrive during the day.
Cats do, indeed, have hearing that is better than that of the average human.[]Cats are also more than capable of learning.[]Put this together, and cats can easily learn to associate certain sounds with certain events.[]I’ve actually had cats that, for example, knew the sounds of the engines of the family vehicles. As such, they’d react accordingly depending upon whether or not someone they liked was coming home.

Cat groomer? I’d pay to see someone try that with some of mine.

My cat always senses when I’m planning to give her a bath and hides. How does she know?

How do my cats know when I’m opening the treat drawer as opposed to another? They just seem to know.
