I’m a typical duffer. I look brilliant on one hole, pathetic on the next, generally averaging about 90. Last fall I played at a fairly difficult local course, aptly named The Ledges. I, too, had an 89 going into the 18th hole, but thanks to a pond, a stone wall, and a tree, I wound up with a score of 103. I feel your pain, Ralph.
I did that once. Shooting in an archery tournament, my son walked up and said “Mom, it’s the last end and you are leading.” I put the next arrow completely off the target.
It’s a mind game common to all sports. Baseball announcers should never mention that the pitcher is one out away from a perfect game, for that will surely engender a base hit. A hockey goalie does his utmost to NOT think of the impending shutout.

I remember when I shot an 81. It was on a 9-hole course.

Playing golf is a waste of time…unless you are trying to impress someone in a “supervisory” position within your company/business…

I usually shot in the 70’s.. if it gets any colder, I don’t go out at all!

We thought it was going to be below 100, since this is golf.

Golf must be fun. But it sure is boring to hear about.
