Subway has wonderful specials, but they’re only available to people who use their “app” or who order on the computer and drive into town to pick up the order (6 miles in my case). So I almost never go to Subway anymore.
For me it’s those McDonald’s kiosks. An employee is standing right there at the cash register—someone who presumably can enter my order much faster than I can—but I’m supposed to enter everything into the kiosk, and then go to the register anyway. UGH.
I have trouble communicating verbally (I can talk, it’s more of a “social awkwardness” thing), and digital orders make it easier to customize. Sure, some people prefer talking to people face to face, and I respect that. You do you. But no matter how I order, I always say “thank you” to the person giving me my food and drink.
I read a SciFi story years ago about a future where only scientists could do basic arithmetic. They had become a “priest” class, admired by everyone. Bad forecast as now it seems smart people are to be denigrated.
I never eat out at these places but occasionally when we travel we might hit a Panera or Jersey Mike, I refuse to use their App or any App I don’t absolutely have to it is so much easier just to order through the website.
I am amazed that people think that everybody has plastic and mobile phones – a lot of people may be too poor and just have enough for getting by in life. Be kind

You have to make accounts for everything now. And if they won’t take money, I’ll find someone who will.

The only time I go to fast food places these days is when my wife is along. None of the apps run on my phone.

I left a cash tip at a restaurant last weekend. It was happily snatched up by the server.

I resisted at first but have to admit I like using Google Pay on my smartphone. I rarely carry sums of money, much less large ones.

Maybe Peppermint Patty isn’t the best cashier but she knows how to upsell that app.
