“Race” fuel goes for a LOT more, already! The compression ratios in race engines are high, and require higher octane. The “compression ratios” oil companies keep testing out on the people, and the economy, are more dangerous. Remember, it was when they pushed up their profit ratios too high the last time things went down the tubes, world-wide!

Remember when there was a “Mobil Economy Run”? Boy! When Detroit actually started producing fuel efficient cars in 1961, they got rid of THAT! AND, they also killed off all those “domestic” fuel efficient vehicles. Now that they’re increasing sales, WITH fuel efficient vehicles, the oil companies are freaking out again!

BTW, number one thing improving automobile safety for “road cars” definitely was NOT “ralph” Nader, it was auto racing advancements, CART, INDY CAR, NASCAR, Formula One, and other forms.

“Arab embargo”- created by U.S. oil companies. Exxon Valdez- still not cleaned up in the sound, by any means. Katrina, and every other storm over 30 mph winds that causes them to shut down production and raise prices. FACT that production is now on record high on federal leases. FACT that the “tension” on Iran is raising HUGE PROFITS for oil companies, and of course “speculators”, while no serious threat actually exists. Iraq war. BP blowout because CFR was changed to allow “industry” to write their own rules after 2007.

I could go on with the “squeeze” the oil industry puts on the public’s collective mind, but, well, the keystone is what is supposed to hold the building up, but has become only a fraudulent plaque to deceive.

this liberal paid 9 dollars a gallon for 100 octane unleaded race gas, to race his car at a world famous race track in monterey on friday. Not a cloud in the sky all day, there’s a drought in california so there’s been no rain to wash the rubber off the track. Very sticky track! One of my best days ever. It was worth every penny!

@LIBBY, stick with what you know, my race tires are about 150 each, and a nascar motor goes for quadruple the price you quoted.besides those NASCAR items make a lot of jobs, and the people who run NASCAR, and the racers and crews are very smart (in spite of what you think), make a lot of money (good capitalists) and do GREAT things with the excess cash (look up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victory_Junction_Gang_Camp)

Danny, glad you had a good track day!! (Used to be SCCA, now son runs sidecars)

NASCAR, SCCA, NHRA and other racing groups do a lot of good for those communities where they race, and for charities. While I love “closed course” racing, the expansion of “personal recreational vehicles”, like OHVs and ATVs (especially) is having a HUGE negative impact on public lands. I welcome more folks building some tracks, preferably on private land, and controlling the impacts.

If these “recreation” folks DID pay as much as racers do for fuel, they might be a lot more prone to conserve it.

Nascar is for people whose family trees don’t branch out very much.
