If you don’t return it, all the cable company will do is add it to your final bill. When I moved out from one place I went to return mine, but also brought one someone had left next to the apartment dumpster. The woman at the cable company thanked me and said they would credit whoever the previous owner whatever they charged them for the missing box.

I doubt they’ll want it anymore, just the card that goes in it. Which makes you wonder, you’re paying rent for a box that they don’t want?
