The cartoonist doesn’t get it. Pumpkin pie is made from the pulp of a pumpkin, not the skin. And their pulp has already been removed. So anyway it’s possible to have your pumpkin and eat it too!
I believe this is what is called “blissful ignorance,” which in the end is never so blissful….
