For those of you wishing to know about Aaron’s condition please check my comment at about 8 PM California time yesterday. He knows I have commented it and all is well.
I had thought of soda as a leveling , it is used in biscuits. Maw must had known about baking and given her that final ingredient. Also oatmeal can be a flour as well. Check any bread aisle in any store and there is oatmeal used in organic bread.Begins to sound very good. Any cooks want to try it? Let me know if it is good. I don’t cook any more. Baby food is all packaged and ready to eat.Love you Aaron. Get better. Blessed Be .
Bless her, Linda’s an angel in disguise. I don’t think Hopper will care if that cake tastes like sawdust…it’s Linda’s caring heart that will make it the best cake, EVER. …Hm..we know Linda has a son..but we’ve never heard about the child’s father. I’m looking forward to learning more about our little Koala. ….Get well soon, Aaron. You have one of the best comics I’ve ever read.
Tried to comment about four hours ago, but some sort of technical problem at GoComics cut me off. All of it, not just this page. Hope it’s fixed now…but they didn’t e-mail me my morning comics set yet.#Anyway…I’m thinking that Linda will make the cake, that Mr. Hopper will love it…and that the Endtowners will be scandalized by the ingredients selection.
Ground oat flour. Not beans. What amazes me is she knows the ingredients for a cake. She was Topsider. How does she know a recipe? Was she something else before she became a Topsider? She would have to have been. So she was not born into Topsider world but was apparently selected to join as being genetically sound and not (then) infected. The joy she will give is short lived. The grind of daily living will set back in and sometimes come back worse. I just hope Hopper does not expect too much. Just a little break from the grind and not become dependent which can happen.
So, I guess it’s Hopper’s arrival tomorrow and cake on Friday. That works out nicely. Cake is always good on Friday and it wraps up the making it part, then we can start the results part starting Monday.
Aaron has said he works about 11 weeks ahead which gives him some buffer. That said, we don’t want him to stress about catching up. I for one can wait.
I wonder how much preparation the founders of Endtown had before the town had to be used. I would expect drugs to be as much a rare commodity as food to a post-apocalyptic society, but if there are drug stores, then they apparently are well-stocked. Which also brings up what’s been nagging me about the foraging parties… They don’t seem to be enough to support the town. I think when Endtown was planned, the planners stocked up on everything they thought they’d need when the End came, and the foraging parties are just supplemental. Endtown is actually well-stocked on food and drugs and other commodities, but the better stuff is held in reserve and rationed while the more expendable and supplemental supplies (like beans) are pushed.
Coyoty that is my point exactly. Endtown would have to have been supplied. You don’t built a city and not put aside food stocks. Its just that how long did they plan to stay? How many inhabitants did they account for? Lets say they accounted for 5000 to live there 10 years. Now increase the population to 10,000. Now the food would only last 5 years. And that’s if it is given out in very careful rationing. Now you can see some of the Topsider plans. Force those remaining on the surface to head underground. That would put internal pressures on the settlements forcing them to come up to gather more supplies while their own supplies are running out. If the topside supplies run out the only place to find food would be Topsider settlements. Thus forcing a fight. The under grounders would have a choice. Starve or go topside and fight it out. That is why they have to get self sufficient underground. Linda may have hit on a key to making it but how do those folks take that fact that they must give milk, eggs, to survive. They may feel bad enough as a freak. This however could give them a feeling of “worth”. It would be like WWII when women gave up stockings, makeup, whatever to help the war effort. Again the women of Endtown would be called upon to help maintain Endtown. Just would they feel like they are helping or just “farm” animals giving their products for others to live? Interesting question.I think Linda took Home Economics before the War so she knows how to cook. I can cook a cake but I use the mix with ingredients. I cant remember what to add to make one from pure scratch. That is why I am impressed with Linda.
On a delightfully ironic note. The boss brought in a sheet cake this morning to mark the 1 year anniversary of our project. It might not be as good as Mr. Hopper remembers Trudy’s cake but it was good! Nice to be loved.
We’not going any where! i myself can wait till Aaron is back to 100% however long he needs. Dont forget to visit tge Auction Block and the Cafe for prints, books, artworks and stuff. Lets show Aaron we do care about him and Endtown!!
@dirtyoldlady1 @surfstuff55 If Aaron needs help with his medical bills, I think the most helpful thing is to make it widely known, and easy to help. I only found out due to your comment here— I found no information on Aaron’s DA, nothing on aaronnethery.org, nothing on his blog. I don’t know where to make a direct donation. I’m not even sure what the exact situation is, because I usually don’t read the comments here.
I want to help! I’m sure lots of people want to help. But they have to know first. The comment thread is gone in a day. By all means keep posting here— the sitch, where to go to help; but post wherever else it can be posted too. Let’s kill those bills!

If there’s no wheat in Endtown, will she make flour from mashed up powdered beans?
