Oh, hey, today’s Friday comic is like a slice of all the questions discussed in the comment section for the last month. That’s sort of spooky, if you ask me.
One question that hasn’t been raised yet is what happened to the non-rat mutants working in Security? There was the lizard that handled Linda’s exit process. And we’d seen interrogators like Mike Mole and Bill Crawford, so there should be more like them. Plus, someone had to have handled Linda’s actual indoctrination, on top of the two characters that gave her a clean bill of health at the end. Where’d they all go? Is Security made up of only rats now? That is, of all the lifeforms currently occupying the Security floor, do we have only Velda, Allgood, Jackrabbit and the rats? (assuming the High Council is just Velda plus some juryrigged switches and microphones…) What happened to the others?
TSOJ I have pondered the same thing. The two that gave Linda the clean bill may not have been Endtown Security but they would have been upstairs where the facility is located. As far as Lizard lady remember she did say one thing. She came from outside, from another settlement destroyed by Topsiders. Could it be that the ones doing this are survivors from those destroyed settlements. They blame Endtown for several things:One. Failing to send fighters to the battle. Instead Flask used it as a cover. Good idea but what was the initial promise to get the other settlements to attack. That Endtown would send help and instead sent none? Two. Those settlements may have had a very strict set of rules and they find Endtown too lenient.Three. Pure Revenge. Four. Take over. These folks were once high authorities in their old settlements but here in Endtown they are seen as just more refugees. Everything they had power wise and property wise destroyed by trusting Endtown. Althought Endtown itself may not have been directly responsible. We don’t know what deals were made by Flask to get that attack done on the satellite. The Topsider on the comm link was bragging about all those now going to give themselves up for harvest. It makes sense those destroyed settlements would want payback.AS far as the others up there in the top. Those following the plans are about but staying away from the scene. Those not in the plans may be occupying cells up there. The one thing this panel did not settle was is there was only Grout. Where were the rest of the force during all this if it was their job to walk a patrol. Why were they not out??
So Grout was the chief. Never seen a chief sit at the duty desk before.More and more this is looking likeREVENGE.After all it is what “I,The Jury” was about.Twisted revenge.
Damn you Aaron, I’m out of popcorn! goes and gets more I think we’ve got a good idea as to the ‘who’ is behind this. As for the why, well, religious fanticism has led more than one person to do things that are counter to survival…
Who benefits from a bloodbath?Someone who wants to see the canals run red with the blood of sinners, of course.Remember when the mayor went to see the High Council?Remember what was said to Al after that?
This Mass Funeral is going to be an issue. Tempers and emotions are going to run high.Hopefully the High Council is going to keep the rule of no Rats going down. But with their lust for blood would they send down the Rats for security hoping for more bloodshed.I was thinking about Walt and his Col Blake looks. Remember what happened to Col. Blake.“Henry Blake’s plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan. It spun in. There were no survivors.” Radar ORiellyI am worried for Walt.
“Right. But how would they benefit? What would the HC get out of this?”If we take when this start what book was Holly reading?“I, The Jury” I don’t like to ruin a good book but it will answer some questions. It is a story of revenge with a female at the center of it. She was wronged by a city and sought revenge on everyone involved. She manipulated any one and every one to get her revenge. Wiki the end you may have an answer to how this may end.
The one motive that had never occurred to me was revenge. Being insatiably logical I’ve looked at it as somebody trying to get something, control over mutant products, forcing people to act according to one’s moral dictates, gaining power. I’ve also forgotten that other mutant communities exist. If members of other communities learned that they lost their best and brightest in a scheme to trap Endtown’s former Security Captain there could be serious grudges, maybe to the point of wanting blood and not caring how it affects your survival. The other question is Velda. She has been portrayed as a femme fatale leading me to believe that she had something material to gain from all this. What if she was a refugee from another colony? What if she lost someone special on an ill-fated mission to destroy the rocket? What if she blames Endtown for her suffering to the point of wanting revenge, no matter what? As an Aspie, I have tended to view her goals in rational terms, money & power but what if she isn’t as cool as she seems? How far were we into the trial story when we first saw the cracks in Flasks’ self image?
I’m still wondering if Velda is fronting for someone else? And I suspect that the intent is not to destroy Endtown, but purge it for its new master and his followers/slaves.
Darwinskeeper,That is what “I, The Jury” is all about. The whole group may be in place wanting revenge. The Lizard lady remarked her community was destroyed. She seemed happy Endtown took her in but others may seem happy outside but hold a grudge inside.
All the characters are here.Walt as Mike Hammer the private eye.Dottie as his faithful assist and girl Friday.Allgood as the bad guy being played.Jake as another good guy but has bad intentions.Three ladies in distress. One upset boyfriend.A corrupt city council on a secret agenda. And one femme fatale. Mysterious. Powerful. Sultry. Sexy. Willing to go who only knows how far to carry out the plan. She will let NO ONE stand in her way but will play the female sympathy card if needed to save her own hide. The story is not about animal rights, mutant rights, it is mystery with these as the backdrop. So we get a little bit of this and a little bit of that!!!!!!!A buffet of enjoyment.
After the second posting of that strip from April 2013 by Mike Thomas, it has led me to believe (although I may be wrong) that it could the work of those crash-test dummies (i.e, the Topsiders) and somehow Al is (at the moment) powerless to stop them.
One player we haven’t seen in this storyline is the Oracle. It has to be a player because someone must want to ask it what’s going on, or it would have wanted to warn people, unless it knew that everything would turn out all right. The High Council might have it contained so it won’t interfere.Or the Oracle may be the puppeteer behind the High Council and know just how to manipulate people to get what it wants. If it’s the one behind everything, it must be confident it will win, because it can foresee all threats against it and wouldn’t bother with its plot if it knew it couldn’t win.
Tekara,You are right it may but in all my years I have seen the opposite. Look at the funerals in the Middle East. Those are powder kegs just waiting for something or someone to set them off. Funerals in Northern Ireland rarely peaceful. Starts off that way then gets ugly. I do hope they put things away and relax but I will dare to say a few will get their dander up. It is just does Security show to insure peace or stay topside. That depends on what the High Council orders. Sending the Rats down would just put a match near the keg.And Mac Did you notice (I know you have not been on long) but the fear of questioning issues goes as far as the Topsiders I would imagine. It seemed to permeate Endtown Reality even prior to the war and virus. No one ever took on APEX about weapon proliferation and creation. Everyone just went along in their own worlds not wanting to hear the news one way or the other. It would be what Flask would know having once been a big time Topsider with connections and probably going back beyond that. She may have been an APEX head honcho with a lot of clout. Flask would instill that which she had already learned. After all she killed or executed with a trial Mole and Crawford with out even so much as a beg for mercy or give me a reason why not to kill you. There appears to be a lot of secrets and distrust lurking behind the scenes. This would make it ripe for some group to slowly manipulate things to a hidden agenda on their own. Even though bad news may cause issues it is better than no news at all so you think all is well.
Another thought came to mind today. Could it be that there is some crazed religious zealot who regards the mutants collectively as those punished by God and is seeking to create a suicidal out-of-contol killing spree? Allgood was seeking more conformity and Velda might be seeking criminal access/power, but what if they unintentionally let a True Believer into the plot with a separate agenda? If the Voice of the HC was serious, it seems that he/she/it is going way beyond that which has been revealed.
This is a side to Walter we have not previously seen. He’s applying himself to a task he’s not comfortable with but knows has to be done and can only be done by him.
Weekend Auction Announcement! The first one is the original panel for Holly’s debut in Endtown. The second is an ink wash version. As always, prints are available if desired. Auction set to close on Wednesday. Please bid and help keep Endtown running!“Enter the Mouse”“Burden”
I have a feeling that this WILl resolve for the good. End town can’t die, it would be the end of the story. Also I think Aaron loves some of his own creations and may even feel identified with one or more. I sure have no clue, so many possibilities. I’m still wondering about Lind’s dream. Hope it was just a nightmare, and doesn’t seem like SHE would have one something wrong since she’s also in jail. There have been things talked about that I hadn’t considered. Has more books been talked about? or just the I Jury one?
“Three rats were the, er, “arresting officers” when the riot broke out…one made it back to the elevator and (maybe) died there…two didn’t…so they’re, presumably, still somewhere down in Endtown.”Exactly. The one that made it to the top of the elevator wouldn’t be included in Walt’s report. The one the duck shot in the back is most likely dead. The one that went through the window may or may not be dead. If he’s still alive, given the mauling he probably received both before and after the window, he’s going to be in a bad condition.Given that the report is on Endtown mutants, there’s a good chance that the rats won’t be mentioned in the list of casualties in any case.
