I was expecting to see more emotion, more violence. But that would be the stereotype for the surface oriented cartoons with little depth.

Panel 3 brings to mind the French Revolution. There was a song about helping the leaders see the light(by hanging them from lampposts.

I wish the best of health for Aaron Neathery, and many more years and books and films and MMORPGs for Aaron and Endtown.I wouldn’t be surprised if Velda picks up a gun and blasts the little rabbit’s butt.Sincerely, Respectfully & Fraternally, JusSayin

Well Three Steps, if you’re right about the Rats being isolated, kicked out, or otherwise forced to move out, I may still see my Rattown. It might not be in charge of Endtown in general, but I have no doubt that they’ll band together, as they always have, in order to survive whatever peril might await them. May be more difficult without guns, they should do what they can to hang on to them, but I have faith in em regardless..

My question is to me (and you) is: Should I now end viewingand commenting on this strip as I’ve been doing for past 3 years (since it is Friday) since there’s now seems to be closure to the “Mutant Food Trail”, or resume this on Monday and put up with Arron Neathery’s creations’ fragrant disregard for language? You’ll know come Monday….

If so, then that would make Jacob a Democrat, playing on the mob’s emotions while slowly amassing power.

And in reference to the French Revolution, what (or rather, who) happened relativey shortly afterwards? Napoleon…

Does a reference to Mussolini come to mind.Hitler did abandon him in the end when he was no longer useful and had lost his control over his followers. He suffered the fate mentioned by Jacob.

It amazes me that Jacob says it again. His is an attempt to grab power and become leader over the masses.Allgood wanted a simple law passed.

Surfstuff, it was a good guess. It was somewhat off. I did not expect dialogue. It seems Jacob wants to twist the knife just a bit more. Now does Allgood reach ground floor or does a cable go “snap”.

Josh you are just so funny. Damn.Have a great after 4th days folks. As it is said “Back to the Lab again.”

This reminds me of B5: “I’d like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this.”

The panda is a parody. I see versions of him all around (Westboro Baptist Church quickly comes to mind). He’s very convinced of his beliefs, even if they are based on the warped beliefs of others, or one (including himself). They aren’t always smart or stupid. They ARE single-minded.

Then again, so are people like Jackrabbit. People like that ARE intelligent, but also manipulative… They know how to play off peoples’ beliefs, ambitions, and fears…until ultimately, they swing on the same ropes they hung for their opponents.

I see no good future for Jackrabbit or Allgood. If they dont end up killing each other, I think the mob shooting in Endtown will lead to double neckties…

The interesting thing about Jacob and Octavius is that they are such mirror images of each other.Octavius Allgood is a moralist. He may be narrow minded and somewhat brutal (given his cross examination of Maude) in pursuing his own goals, but his main interest was in making people do what he believes is the right thing. He said that he never wanted the Milk 3 harmed and his unwillingness to bring up Linda’s Topsider past bears that out. When his plans were ruined he still had the courage to return to Endtown knowing that he will be an outcast and could easily wind up dead.Jacob is more of an amoral opportunist who seems to have no problem having three women arrested and mistreated in the furtherance of his goals. It seems likely that he was also behind engineering the riots and massacre. In his last monologue to Allgood he expresses interest in nothing beyond amassing and maintaining power. He is not talking about the good he will do with said power, just about having it. Neither is entirely good, and Jacob may not be entirely bad, but they are as opposite as you can get.

Go back as far as you can and catch up. I don’t think you’ll regret it. Plus, you get to read everything roght away, with no weekends spent teetering on the edge. :-) I followed a link to this strip, and came in in the midst of a battle featuring ray guns. I was immediately intrigued, and went back to the beginning (which was at a different website then), and started. Go as far back as you can and enjoy the various turns of story in sequence.

Technically, if I remember correctly, the elevator to the topside and to Endtown are separate devices. The Endtown elevator is an open cage while the Topside elevator is an enclosed capsule.

For Monday:The doors close in panel 1a close up of Allgood with his head hanging down in panel 2 as the elevator descents.People noticing and starting to gather at the base of the elevator in panel 3.They’re watching the door open in panel 4.BTW, no dialogue. That’s my guess.

Cooper had some pretty prophetic words way back. JJ wants power but wont risk his skin to get it yet willing to risk others. A cowardly despot that couldn’t control his own bowel movements without help. Yet intelligent and manipulative. I worry about the impure humans living down there. They’re not in JJs equation of mutant purity

There can also be the Rorschach factor to the strip. People can look at various characters and situations and, depending on their personal views, see different things. That’s one reason why I TRY to shy away from that and ATTEMPT to focus on the characters as they are presented. I still get that wrong much of the time.

Two things…well, maybe three…let’s see how this post plays out…

One: No real-life politics PUH-LEEZE. Many (if not most) of us are here for a momentary respite from the shouting match. This is a comic strip, not Crossfire.

Two: Josh, I’ve been reading this strip for a year-and-a-half and think Aaron actually shows a lot of restraint with his language. If he didn’t, it would be “good bye” from GoComics. We all choose to be here, including you. Nice-looking radio in your avatar, BTW. Is that a Grundig or Eton?

Ohh, okay…here’s Three: There have been complaints by some that Endtown moves too slowly, but that’s because much of it is used to flesh out its characters. I keep thinking of the Japanese word “ma.” Anyway, the strip may be black-and-white but the personalities never are. We’re watching a classic of this genre unfold daily.

To all:Regarding Aaron’s earlier strips – you can find most of them at his old website. While you’re there, check out his Electromatic Radio show, too (ignore the music parts. Just listen to the opening and closing sketches and the break in the middle.) And here’s the link to Albert and Free Energy.

W.R.T. the plot moving too slowly. It probably feels that way for most webcomics that try to tell a story. The artist can only create so much work in a given period of time so you have the choice of either waiting for each new installment to come out, gobbling it up and then waiting for the next or taking a break for a few years and then racing through the archives taking the story at the pace it was actually meant to be taken. I’ve followed quite a few strips over the past couple of years including “Freefall”, “Girl Genius” and of course “Endtown” and the archive dive is always the funnest part. Once the dive is done I usually settle for watching the story unfold bit by bit. At least here there are fun people to hang out with.

“In order to wrap this up, we still need to know what happens with the Milk Three.”They took a break from the story to take advantage of the 4-day weekend. Rumor has it they’ve been hanging out at a bar in Havana, drinking rum-based cocktails and making rude noises at the tourists. Maude will get picked up by the police for lewd behavior, and none of them will be back on time when the story starts up again on Monday. Jake will have to wing it on his own until the 14th.

The fringe area is some of the best fun. Sort of old school. Like off Broadway in New York. I seen some great plays and musicals off Broadway. Rocky Horror Picture Show for one. Sit through that wearing a military full dress uniform. Even the actors recognized and spoke off line to me. I really do hope they get the Cuban thing solved. You are right.
