Well, there were two options: Holly was flashing back to something that happened earlier, probably around the time of The End, or was reacting to the loss of Wally’s baby in Security. If Wally knows that he’s sterile, then the only other choice is to talk to Doc, and have Holly put into a padded cell during the conversation. Either way, we’re getting closer to her backstory.
Whew! Back on the tower! Holly seems to be unconscious since Wally and Angus are talking as if she can’t hear them. Wally seems sure that the baby Holly mentioned wasn’t his.
Evolving from fool to doltI hate to say this, since I have become very attached to both Wally and Holly, but Wally has been a bit of a fool during this arc, and today he has graduated to full blown dolt. The houseHolly ran to her home before running to the tower. It seems that it was only when she saw her house a total wreck that she totally lost it and became suicidal. So right off the bat Wally’s negligence is a nontrivial contributing factor to Holly’s breakdown. There is no excuse that for over a month Wally left everything the way it was the day of the raid. Even if it was too big a job for him to do himself and he didn’t have enough friends to help, Holly has many, many friends. All he would have had to do is put out the word that Holly needed help.Add to this the perks he was supposed to get for going on the mission with Flask (assuming they weren’t lost when Flask failed to return with them), and he should have been able to get whatever he needed to fix things up.The only possible redemption for Wally on this point would be if he has instead prepared a new home for them. Even so, he should have called after Holly when she started running home to let her know that they had moved in her absence.Holly’s returnNext off, Wally should have run up to her the second she stepped off of the elevator, even if the press was waiting. Linda and Maude don’t have anyone in their lives to be there for them, but Wally should have gathered Holly into his arms and comforted her rather than let the press get at her, an unpleasant experience even for someone who is whole and healthy. There didn’t seem to be any security present that would have prevented him from running to her when she got off the elevator. But even if there was and we didn’t see it, he wasn’t even near the front of the crowd. It looks as if he was standing back from the crowd waiting for Holly to come to him!!(BTW – not that I see any way that he could have done it, but bonus points would have been awarded for having a cheese basket with him when she was freed. Speaking of cheese, even with milk from Maude, without cultures Holly may not be able to restock her cheese supply at this point.)Today’s failureWhich brings us to today, where Wally gets a failing grade as a partner, as a lover, even as a friend.I can understand Wally’s answering Angus’ first question. But after that, even if she seems unconscious, Wally’s full attention should have been exclusively on Holly. He should have been hugging her tightly, cheek-to-cheek, not just holding her.He should have been talking to her, telling how worried he’d been when he heard that she’d been arrested, how he had tried to rescue her, how much he’s missed her, how much he feared for her wellbeing during the trial and how he had been praying for her safe return. He should have been reassuring her that he still loved her very much, that he would always be there for her and that he was going to take care of her.And he should have been begging her to never leave him.And even if he hasn’t had a chance to process her comment about losing a baby (personally, in his position, even if I hadn’t previously known anything about it, I would have instantly assumed that the baby was ours and immediately joined her in feeling a great sense of loss), he should have been comforting her and sharing her loss.Absolutely he needs to get her to the hospital. Even if there wasn’t a question of Holly’s mental health, it is obvious that she became much more ill from her captivity than her fellow prisoners. Add that she’s potentially had a recent miscarriage, and you get an ambulance as quickly as you can.If Holly wasn’t so ill, it would have been appropriate for Wally to take her home (where?) and bath her and calm her. At the hospital, he shouldn’t stand back and return to the spectator mode that he seems to have been in. He should personally take part in her personal (non-medical) care, not leaving it up to others to do.And if he doesn’t already have alternative housing arranged, he needs to make sure that something better than a flat at Maude’s is ready for them well before Holly’s discharge. And if he has half a brain in his head, as soon as Holly’s recovered from her physical and mental injuries, he should propose to her before she gets away.
Angus walks into a bar, the bartender looks over and says “Why the long face?” Security shows up later, possibly injuring several bystanders in the process.
What if the fetus is actually human in form (as long as it’s Wally’s), with a resistance to the virus. In other words, like Al? That would be food for thought for lots of characters, namely Jacob and the Topsiders and especially the Endtowners. It would render both Jacob’s and Allgood’s arguments moot.
Well, I for one am glad AN didn’t drag out the rescue. I was thinking there was going to be a week-long Harold Lloyd kind of sequence on the clock tower.
Wally has his own problems, PTSD-like ones. He spent years scrounging while the topsiders were trying to kill him. Holly did change him some, but with Holly gone(in detention), he is just as lost as he was.
Actually, ignoring everything mentioned above, the first thing Wally needs to do is to get Holly to Doc Chase for a check-up. While Holly wasn’t physically tortured, she is probably (definitely) suffering from malnutrition, dehydration and sleep deprivation. Doc needs to give her some vitamin shots and a light sedative, and then determine if she requires any further immediate treatment. At a minimum, NOBODY talks about giving her cheese…
Wally hasn’t had time to say anything to Holly since she got off the elevator. He called her name and she ran. And I believe he must have a good reason to think he and Holly haven’t lost a child. Otherwise Wally wouldn’t ask someone he’d just met about Holly’s possible miscarriage. Wally expects it to be an event in Holly’s past.
Do you think it’s possible Holly didn’t know she was pregnant when she was arrested? She could’ve miscarried up there—-and, given what we’ve seen of the Security Rats medical examinations, I wouldn’t feel too comfortable about letting them handle it—-if they even did. (Boy that cell must’ve been a mess when they left it.)#I concur with what others have said: their next stop should be Doc Chase.
I’m not sure how you’d define “emotional leech”. The point that has been made by Sylerner and Veteran (among others) is that in the give and take of the relationship, Holly has done the bulk of the giving and Wally the bulk of the taking. Its not that Wally is a bad guy (he definitely isn’t) but that he either doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do OR is so traumatized that he isn’t able to do it.One thing that is made obvious in the beginning of Endtown 3 is that Wally is an extreme loner. Even though he has spent the previous few years of his life struggling to survive on the surface and being chased by Topsiders, he’s still reluctant to follow Allie to Endtown. Its my impression that he hasn’t made many friends while down there, other than Holly, Linda and the Doc, the only person he seems to know is Trace. Holly may be the first time he has ever really loved a woman and he may not understand what his responsibilities as a live in boyfriend are. I also suspect that Holly has cut him a lot of slack in the past. I suspect that someone (likely a grumpy badger) is about to give our favorite feline a crash course in this matter. As far as trauma goes, having the love of your life arrested and nearly executed is pretty bad (though Flask can claim worse). I can see how it may make Wally catatonic. The thing is that Holly’s back now, she really needs Wally to step up and I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t eventually do it.

Angus’ tail bushes up just as good as Wally’s. I wonder if this is an alpha male thing.
