I’m guessing that the type of mutation follows something in the personality of the mutated.

If that’s the case, then it explains why we’ve never seen an anthro asking “why an X?” We’ve seen anthro-muties who couldn’t accept being mutated, but none of them seem to be particularly turned off by the exact type of mutation, so “follows the personality” would make sense in context.

I would like to submit that up to this time, all transformations have been unwilling, whether conscious or unconscious. To my knowledge of the strip, this is a first, a willing, unresisting transformation and it opens up the possibilities of an entirely new type of transformation. Why do they want to transform? I think one of them must have a terminal illness, cancer and the healing power of being transformed is their only option to remain alive.Wouldn’t it be something if their in their transformation, they remained human, but gained all the benefits of being transformed.

Yaknow, with improved healing, that means they are likely more resistant/better recovery to the prompt effects of conventional nuclear radiation and, perhaps, even low level Amesworth exposure (assuming not dissimilar molecular disruption)

humm I was suspicious about these two as well but now im a bit less. I wonder if they are sick and the only way they think they can survive is to mutate?

Why would they want to transform? Love. It’s only been seven years since the End. A lot of relationships were ruined by separation. Separation by death, by transformation and alienation, and by isolation inside the suits. Some relationships survived despite those obstacles, such as Al’s and Gustine’s. Jim and Sarah may have loved each other deeply before the End, with plans to grow old together and have children, but can no longer be a close family because of the suits. Because of the risks and temptations, loving relationships may even be as forbidden between Topsiders as it was for Flask and Petey. Jim and Sarah are as desperately in love.Maybe they want kids so much, they’ll become goats.

We really don’t know the nature of the transformations of many of the characters—-for instance, when and how Albert and Gustine were exposed, and how Albert felt when he found he wasn’t transformed. Early on, it just happened, I guess. (Maybe Albert and Gustine just went to bed one night and in the morning Albert woke up next to a rhino that looked like Gustine.) I do wonder if, early on, some Topsiders just got up transformed within their suits because of some inadvertent puncture…

I’ll also note—-because it just occurred to me—-that it seems to be universal that when one mutates, one loses a pinkie on each hand. (I suppose even if they wind up without arms, they’ve still lost the pinkie.)

How about this for a bad trip? These suits don’t have the “flaw”.

Shooting people is supposed to be fun, like those South American Dictatorship Firing Squads where some big shot puts you against a post and waves his sword while saying “Ready, Aim..” and then there’s an interuption before he says “Fire”is shot by a firing squadDamn you…. One guy I knew, he wouldn’t have needed any disease to induce him to volunteer for a change like that. Heck, he’d probably pay for the transmutation…

During this story arc I had often wondered if Jim and Sarah were a couple. Up until this point their behavior had seemed fairly unromantic, they didn’t even embrace when they thought the drones were going to kill them. It may just be that life in the Topsider domes leads one to have very detached behavior.

… because perhaps Wally MADE ALL THAT UP and he’s using it as an excuse to kill them.

I’m totally surprised they trust him so much. I totally expected them to do it one at a time instead of both of them at once.

hehehehe I just thought of something horrible…. What if one of them is secretly immune, and the other isn’t?

@the other girl saidDepends if it’s a mission. If it is love, then that may conquer all. Either way, they both get to live outside their suits after seven years of confinement. Of course, the mutation may not cure the illness but actually cause a worst transformation.

There’s still time to place a wager, folks……Perhaps one of them will be a bird anthro…and actually try to fly.

The other ghost girl- the “health screening stations” were simply extermination sites. My WAG is that the virus was an APEX artifact, intended to be a “herd thinner”, selecting for ideological/eugenic “purity” that went horribly wrong. Since the virus was out of control, APEX took the more direct route of simply killing everyone not already in the fold.

hummm unless Jim dose not mutate. I dont rember if it was ever addressed in the story but I seem to remember that the only ones to escapethe mutation were males.

ah ok. all I could remember without going way back was seeing unmutated males.

did have an interesting thought what would happen if an unmutated female was pregnant and then mutated would the unborn baby be immune?

Still dont trust these two without hearing a good reason. The idea of an illness seems most likely being that they made such a big deal about the healing ability.. Oh well guess well find out.

By the way, I want them to be Ents, and to begin to revegetate the barren waste. But with no solvent or zero scalpel, I expect their uniforms to be confining.Just think, a 100 foot(30metre) tall tree that walks and talks. Even better if they were immune to zero weapons like Sparky Anderson.
