Go Your Own Way (Endtown version), by JennerTo the tune of Go Your Own Way by Lindsey Buckingham, performed by Fleetwood MacKeeping you isn’t the right thing to doYou’re shedding fur, and it gets everywhereIf I could, I’d let your friends leave with youHow can I, when I don’t make the rules ‘round here? You can go your own way, go your own wayYou’ll be over the hill within a day.You can go your own way, go your own wayTell me why mammals are so full of gloomFree to go, and you still want to hang ‘roundThings are tight, and we could do with your room.Drop the cat. Drop the head. Cover some ground. You can go your own way, go your own wayYou’ll be over the hill within a day.You can go your own way, go your own way
The emphasis on eating the food rears its head again. The lizards will feel less guilty if others eat the same thing they do.They are Ovoraptors only by circumstance and choice to some degree. I wonder if some crave fresh meat, because the hindbrain which even in Humans is largely reptillian is driving those desires along with a non-humanoid metabolism.Wally is not included in the release, and we all know Holly will raise hell about it rather that leaving of her own volition.Jim is concerned with Sarah still and does not know she plans to stay and run things.Jim is in for a rude awakening, his misplaced loyalty to his (former) partner will only exacerbate things further along with Holly’s protests. The lesson here is, in an apocalypse situation, it’s not the war, aliens, zombies, radiation, etc. that are the real danger. The real danger comes from your fellow survivors, what happens when the rule of law breaks down? Can people be expected to behave as if the system was still in place? Will they form a reasonable and just society in the vacuum of no central government? Will the thin veneer of so-called civilisation come down and become little more than psychotic hominids bent on our own personal survival and comfort and to hell with everyone else.Even in our own world with it’s rule of law, battered but mostly intact, it is easy to observe who these people are.I like to call them the “Me Firsts”. They are easy to spot and fun to watch sometimes, their natural environment is the roads and highways. Observe parents dropping kids off at school, or looking for a parking spot at a busy mall. Or in slow traffic. They will be the ones who pass on the right, or pull out in front of you instead of waiting. Or go zooming up the merging lane just trying to get even one car ahead of you, because that makes all the difference to them.I call this game “spot the Sociopath”They will do what ever they can to get ahead of you, even in line at the checkout. That thin veneer becomes almost transparent once they get behind the wheel. Our heroes are looking through that veneer now, each sees a reality they don’t like or want to be a part of…Except for Sarah, she is finally home.
I wonder how Sarah will break the news to Jim?? I’m sure she won’t ‘just disappear’…at least I don’t think she will! I also wonder if she will even care anymore. Poor Jim…mutated for nothing!
Looks like we’re adding soap opera to the sci-fi dystopia mix..Soap opera?.Hey, that’s been the running gag in Sherman’s Lagoon for a couple weeks now..Now that story has a chance at a happy ending!.Megan’s in a coma!
Here is a take and some speculations.Sarah is going to kill Jim.Remember she does what she does for herself. She will not allow Jim to jeopardize her new position she is now working on.Jim loves her and so losing her will make him “suffer”.Remember back to Flask…..Topsiders kill any who are “suffering”.I would guess a short stab to the liver in a fond embrace. It would be her wayAlso it will solidify her position in the settlement killing a furry mutant.Show her dedication to the “cause”. Wally and Holly will escape (or be let go after Wally kicks Phil’s butt) to continue their journey….probably with Chic…..in a balloon. The Mark II version of the last balloon they were in. Protected by the dittos who finally figure out they like Wally better than the Lizards. Remember this is the story about Wally and Holly on a Walkabout….Jim and Sarah are just the side show on the journey.Speculation is always fun…..lets see how this goes.

Released, expelled, turned away, unleashed, de-owned… Who knows? These are all just words. What’s important is that you enjoy your last meal.

The auction: Ah, for the days of the preposterous rhinoceros: A reminder of the gentle humor this strip has had in the past.
