It seems like the lizards inspire this kind stupidity in the other mutants they meet. First Wally declined a chance to escape his cell and leave because he wanted to whip Phil’s tail in what he should expect to be a rigged fight so he can shove their “reptilian” superiority down their throats. Now Chic wants to stay so he can be a thorn in his father’s side. He and Wally belong together.
You can dedicate yourself to hate or escape and hurt them more by living a life they never will. Look at where they are and how they live, you can do more, be more, than they ever could. Pain and ignorance are only holding you down. Behind the walls they put up.Survive and show them they might had hatched you, but you made everything great about yourself without them.
Jim and the last two Endtown Auctionblock artworks suggest otherwise. There is at least some nice green land out there. The question is whether there are Topsiders as well. Jim had suggested the great green is beyond their reach, but I can only wonder why.
I can’t help but feel sorry for Jim, being willing to risk becoming whatever for his love for his sick girlfriend. then being so undone by her heartless, coldblooded scaly selfishness.I hope he goes down quickly with a minimum of pain. I would not mind if some others went down harder, like Jim’s heartbreaker, Phil, and Cheney.
Actually…since Chic thinks his parents are trying to bump him off, I might be leaning back towards my first conclusion that his father /was/ in fact concerned over him rather than seeing this as an opportunity. It might be realizing his parents love him, rather than truly dislike/want him gone, that might convince him to go for his own sake and health.

Judging by the 4th panel in this strip, Jim’s appearance reminds me of Gollum.
