“Operator? Operator? We’ve been disconnected!”Someone is tapping the lines or there is a second exchange somewhere. Walt should stake out the junction box.

?? How can that be done? I’m sure there are ways but I don’t know how. That isn’t the recommended way of disconnecting the phone.I’m beginning to think the wolves are Bad to the bone.Except, that is too easy. This could be an analogy to the robber Barons, or the the “Daddy War-bucks”, but that would be similar to Jake Jackrabbit or xavior Duck at the Mad Lab.

If you connect directly to the building’s phone line and have a repairman’s clip-on handset, you can call anyone without being traced in that system. You clip in then dial it up. All you need is a trunk line and the correct number. Anywhere downstream from the branch exchange on the same trunk line will work .

I say the caller isn’t a wolf, but someone looking to stir up trouble for personal gain of some sort. Like Cheney.

Walt is definitely a man of action and a bear for punishment.

Well, now… Portia is looking so much thinner. This relationship is doing wonders for her.

I hate to admit this, but I probably would have done the same thing.

I wonder what Security has been doing all this time. They would have the technology to redirect calls, as they did during the Milk Trial. Last we saw, they took refuge in the ceiling complex, but we can’t assume they remain cut off and uninvolved in Endtown affairs. I smell rats.

Seeing Ms. Leghorn on the switchboard made me think: why is there this secret movement towards eating pig, and just pig? A lotta people like chicken just as much.

The calls are from a Topsider. Trolling is aimed to initiate colony collapse.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I would personally like to thank Aaron for injecting at least a little humor into this story. I know that the Endtown saga is anything but funny, but a little levity here and there is still appreciated…

Crazy thoughts. In a world where there are (were?) flying cars and, presumably, floating cities (where else are these so-called Topsiders living?), and prior to the “end of the world as we know it,” cell phones to the point of no more landlines, suddenly, we are dealing with the old style patch panel telephone switchboards? As someone who is familiar with the old style Strogen (and their competitor, the X-Y) electromechanical telephone exchanges, I’m just wondering where they got their hands on this equipment, so incredibly out-of-date prior to the end of the world, and not terribly straight forward to have to fabricate so many years, decades, perhaps centuries after the fact.

Endtown appears to have been constructed during an earlier period of history. For a secret installation, modernization would be slow. (sound absurd? Think about the 8" floppy disks used in the US missile launch centers…)
