I know Allgood was a manipulator in his own right, but he was pretty spot on with his message. Guess it makes sense now why Jake had to pump up the attendance at Allgood’s lectures…
I don’t suppose Jacob is in any condition to create some public speeches about how the people of Endtown are being conned into believing in a non-existent food shortage, or that they should not be eating their neighbours and friends.
When the Milk Trial riots had calmed down, and a funeral was commencing for those who died from it, I seem to recall Mayor Walt Trimble making a very moving speech. He even took some responsibility for not doing his job better. Perhaps Jacob needs to take a page or two from his predecessor. It could be the start of finding a solution.
Now I’m beginning to see why Aaron Marx manipulated (?) Jacob into becoming mayor. As one near the bottom of the animal food kingdom, Jacob will redouble efforts to squash this cannibalism movement since he himself is at risk.
A couple reasons why no one refused and raised am alarm. 1) Candidates for the service were carefully investigated before the offer was made and none refused. 2) Along with the offer, the threat to be put on the food donor list if the candidate spoke to cops. (Was going to say "if candidate squealed…but—too soon. )
Miss VanderWeasel!!! You’re a keeper. But you’re still a weasel. 126 out 6 or 7 thousand? Flask would know what to do. PURGE! BABY! PURGE!!!!! The day of the Rat is at hand. Time to excute the………For the Greater Good Plan.
Here is where the middle ground seems the best path. Acknowledge the benefits of your change and use your humanity to moderate/control the negative aspects of the change.
Also, it may be time to send out foragers again, if nothing else than to keep fresh in their minds what’s really out there. Use of the dittoes to mask the foragers from Topsiders could make the tasks much safer.
Ah, got it. When it was Mavis, then Jacob said, “Fry her!” Now that the Jack Rabbit as a prey beast is on the menu, it’s all sweat and OMG! Hey, mister! You want frys or coleslaw with that rabbit?
Jake was making the mistake of assuming that people are adults capable of making the “morally right” decisions at all times (even if they can be manipulated during elections). He’s lucky – if Cannibal Co. hadn’t gotten greedy and overplayed their hand so early, this could have gone on a lot longer, until over half of the population was on the customer list.
Before i thought it was the rats behind some of that. But then their boss said he sticks to the book of law. Doesnt mean there cant be any rats on the list, but not as group or organisation. Yes, 127 of 7000 is terrible and no whistleblower. how to deal with that?
I just went back to the very beginning to start re-reading the strip and noticed something. WHERE ARE ALL THE UNMUTATED HUMANS?? In the beginning , when Al brought back the some beans, and got the professor (Iwant more of HIM in the strip again!) to help him get the townfolk to want to eat beans, there were several other normal humans shown. What happended to them? Are THEY the ones running things in secret , organizing the new ‘pork’ industry?

Well, they or the rats – if they care about them eating each other – got their work cut out for them.

Well in my opinion we can put to rest all the conspiracy theories about Jacob and Velda, they actually are for the good of the colony.
