Much linguistic confusion here. (If you’re not interested, just skip this entry.)
The ANTI- in ANTIPASTO does not imply negation but is a form of ANTE, meaning “before”, as in ANTEBELLUM (“before the (Civil) War”).
The -PASTO has nothing to do with PASTA (which is the same root as PASTE and pâté). Rather it means “food” or “meal”, as in rePAST.
So ANTIPASTO simply means an appetizer in Italian, or as my GF calls appetizers, “pre-food food”.
Now you know.
beware! pschearer is trying to pull the wool over your eyes! this deadly combination , probably a plot hatched by Jihadists , will set off a chain reaction, ending in a nuclear detonation
pre-food indeed! Pschearer, who do you REALLY work for?
