We really need to pass laws that limit the length of campaigns, the amount of money that they can spend, and make equal amounts of TV and other media time free to anyone who can get the signatures of roughly 10% of voters. Otherwise, we can’t choose the candidate we actually want, only the ones chosen by the two major parties. Trying to compete against their money machines makes it pretty near impossible for a candidate without the blessing of one or the other to have any chance. ……………………………………………………………………………..It also creates a situation in which the winning candidate is “owned” but the party that created their job and required to spend more time raising money for the next election than actually doing the job they were elected to do.
