“Orange” as a name is a result of a long chain. Anyway, the name of the color is taken from the fruit. In Spanish, the fruit is “naranja” and the color is “color de naranja” – and the name “naranja” comes from the old Arabic name of the fruit (Naaranj), and the old Arabic name comes originally from Persian, and I think the Persian names from an old Turkic or Chinese origin; With modifications of course.

I think it’s a very good question from ignorance. Tina should not be mocked for wondering, but commended. For example, Swedish borrowed ‘orange’ as a color from english, the previous ‘brandgul’ (fire yellow) is rarely used nowadays. The fruit itself is ‘apelsin’ (apple china) so no connection there, it’s just a color.

In English, the colour is named after the fruit. Prior to the addition of that word to the language, any item that was more or less orange would have been described as gold.

If an orange is caĺled an orange because it’s orange, why isn’t a lemon called a “yellow”?

The color got its name from the fruit. Before then, the color would be called yellow-red or red-yellow, depending on the hue.
