Though the family has never lost a member in battle, I always tear up at the end of the National Anthem for what they did to make sure that we remained a free country.
My dad passed away at 95, he’d be over 100 now. He served in WWII in the artillery service battery keeping the guns firing, feeding the gunners and generally anything to support the firing batteries.
WWII Vets are now few and far between now, if you have one in your home give him a hug and say I Love You.

God Bless all who served!!! My Dad was an airplane mechanic & my FIL was in the army, for WW2. My eldest bro got Viet Nam, as did most of our friends. Sadly, Agent Orange decimated most of the ones who made it home. Don’t get me started on Viet Nam or Afghanistan!!! War Is Hell. Plain & simple. God Bless Them All!!!!!!
The MLK quote is/was NOT related to the dead or to veterans. Further, seems insulting to use an out-of-context pacifist quote for this occasion. Would think you could’ve done better.
One of my Dad’s WW2 stories was about coming home for leave. While he was waiting for his bus ride, he did a little window shopping. A walking cane caught his eye so he purchased it. When he made it home his mother saw him get off the bus and ran to meet him. As she caught sight of the cane, she collapsed thinking that he had been injured. This happened a few months after they had buried my dad’s brother who had died flying fighter planes.
Dad felt guilty about upsetting her like that for many years.
And now the enemy is within our borders…… 40 million people who support a presidential candidate that is a convicted sexual offender, someone who’s convicted of business fraud and who has three more trials to go. Someone who quotes Hitler. The enemy is within.

Lovely sentiment but why are the males saluting and the women with their hands over their hearts? Women serve too.
