For several years I was an avid Yelp reivewer and all I can say is that it is important to post positive reviews (assuming they are legit) to counteract the negatives. However, I do believe that if the preponderance of evidence leans strongly one way, you should take that into consideration (not when posting your own) but before you go. My 2 cents.
I was about to try a newish (open about 8 months) nearby restaurant. As I was on my computer just before going out, I decided to look up it’s reviews on Yelp. They were not good.
I didn’t go – anywhere, actually. But wondered later if I had deprived myself of a new experience, or saved myself some disappointment. Which is worse in the realm of human experience?

Just enjoy the food and stay off your phone afterwards.

Too many people these days go somewhere and don’t know if they had a good time until they check with social media.

The shame of erroneous enjoyment!

Why wouldn’t he read the reviews BEFORE he ate there?

This strip really, really personifies today’s social media.

Well, that’s a switch. It’s usually the other way around.

Think for yourself! Don’t let the opinion of others sway you.

Wow! I guess I didn’t have nearly as enjoyable an evening as I thought I did.

Yes, and you can be sure this establishment has hired reviewers to diss its competitor two blocks down the street.
