Teacher: Don't worry. Something gets spilled every time we have this class. That's why we wear painting shirts! Girl: But, that's my dad's shirt. I lent it to him! Teacher: It's an old one, Deanna. And it will wash. Girl: Tsk! Mike: She tsk-ed me!!

I followed the strip for ‘only’ 20-25 years, so any of the original appearances of Deanna were before my time.
Once again I will state that I really wish LJ would mark these so we know which is unaltered period work (except perhaps the addition of color), which is edited period work (the Cheryl Ladd/Shania Twain bit), and which is new work (set in the old period).

As far as the people of Ontario are concerned, it’s everybody else that has an accent ;)

Isn’t Deanna’s mother a bit of a snob? Seems D is a chip off the old block – how long will she be like this I wonder? These are all new to me.

I definitely agreed with that black teacher about those old dirty shirts for the kids to use while they were doing the arts with the paints and brushes in that classroom. I posted my comment yesterday that those kids should wear the old dirty shirts while they did the paintings with the brushes. The black teacher had good common sense! Deanna should know better that she should not lend her father’s shirt to Michael. The black teacher should give these kids the old dirty shirts to wear before they went ahead to do the paintings. After that, the teacher could wash those old dirty shirts in washing machine with no spots and stains anyway.

Wildmustang… does it matter WHAT color the teacher is?

Wildmustang1262 says: “The teacher should give these kids the old dirty shirts to wear before they went ahead to do the paintings. After that, the teacher could wash those old dirty shirts in washing machine with no spots and stains anyway.”
Given what teachers are paid (not much), that is why it is the parent’s responsibility to send in paint shirts. Also, elementary schools do not come with wash machines.
That is why they are paint shirts, they are supposed to get messed up.

Wildmustang: We know the teacher is black, we can see her! Unless there was a white teacher with her, no need to describe. Then again, really no reason to describe anyhow! Saying “the teacher” would have been enough, no matter how many teachers there were.

Michael looks too adult here. His jaw is too big. Definitely a new strip - Lynn J did not make that mistake.

Hey, Gweedo, it’s “eh,” not “ay.” If you’re going to mock us, do it right!
And Craigor, elementary (and all other public school teachers) here in Ontario are actually paid quite well. There’s a HUGE discrepancy between what Canadian teachers are paid and their American counterparts.

1 - Canadians do not have accents - well except those to the east of Ontario. 2 - Turkey Day for Canada was 6 WEEKS ago. 3 - when th is comic was written (and remember it’s based in ONTARIO CANADA), Elementary (grade) school teachers were making around $35k a year and that was on the HIGH average. Now, the average start wage for a elem. teacher is $38k 4 - The original date … “Thanks for the suggestion - but I’d prefer to leave the panels as they are. The reason is that in the renewed story line the earlier work is not in order. Publishing the original dates would be awkward - and would also take up too much space.

Of course we Canadians have accents. We just don’t notice them. Unless one is from Newfoundland, now they have a very strong and unique speech. EH!

Thanks for finding LJ’s FAQ, AllanVS. I’m really not concerned so much about dates or when things fit in, though (as long as she doesn’t retcon in things that never happened). I’d just like a little indication of what I’m reading (old, revised, or all-new) - it could be as simple as an “A”, “B”, or “C” in the copyright/date line.
